We’re proficient in all of the major ballroom dances, latin dances, and swing dances like lindy hop, balboa and charleston. If you plan to social dance, you’ll probably see one or more of these styles.
This ballroom dance is smooth and relaxed, yet just enough “pep” to let you move around the dance floor. It goes well with a large variety of music, from classical swing to modern soft rock.
This dance is smooth and graceful, and travels more on the dance floor. It’s usually danced on a larger floor, and has a rise-and-fall feel to it that almost makes couples look like their floating. Viennese Waltz is a faster, more energetic style of waltz.
Argentine tango is the original tango, and is danced is very close position. Its romantic expression and closeness makes it especially attractive. American tango is characterized by sharper movements, and travels more.
This latin ballroom dance is very relaxed, but with hip motions to make it sexier. A lot of traditional and modern music (especially romantic ballads) can be danced with the rumba.
This exciting, faster dance has a syncopated “cha-cha-cha” rhythm (literally!), and can more easily be danced on a very small floor. Some of the faster latin and club music can be danced using cha-cha.
This is the most popular of the latin dances socially in the US. It is fast and sexy, and uses a lot of hip gyrations and fast turns. It doesn’t travel much, so it’s great for small floors.
East Coast Swing
Also known as “jitterbug” this is the dance that was really popular to early rock and rock of the 50’s. It can be danced to big band music, modern rock, and even classics from the 20’s and 30’s.
This can be danced to most tempos of music, and is characterized by fast turns and counter-balance with your partner. It’s usually danced to the same type of music as east coast swing, but has a greater variety of movements and stylings.
West Coast Swing
This is a derivative of lindy hop, but is danced at slower tempos, and with a lot more sex appeal. It’s usually danced to 80’s and 90’s rock, as well as country. It’s characterized by a lot of creativity of movement, especially by the lady.
Night Club 2-Step
This is danced to slower tempo pop music, and is danced mostly “in place” without much traveling. It’s very common at clubs where west coast swing is also played.
